Yum to Meze in Leytonstone, we love it too! We're off to Turkey in a few weeks, partly inspired by the amazing Turkish food we've eated in East and North London. Can't wait.

In case you haven't already tried it another great eatery is Mudra. They are lousy at marketing themselves but at least that means we can always get a table! It's on the High Road near Ichiban. It's delicious Indian food but does more interesting dishes than the average British Indian restaurant. Had take away from the Star of India too which was good quality but not as unique as Mudra's menu.

looks to me like the Topkapi roof - I remember doing a drawing of that gold roofed pagoda thing when I visited ages ago.

I loved the coolness and light in the harem rooms

Yay, you're back!

I just got back from a few days in Istanbul about a month ago, and the reason I didn't buy any presents for anyone is like you say - you can buy baklava in the newsagent opposite my house, so why bother schlepping it all the way across the ocean in a suitcase? Seems a bit silly.

Is that photo on the roof of Topkapi Palace?

Yay for phallic gourd place - which it will always be named as far as I'm concerned. It is simple yet effective.
