I kept well clear of the Olympic torch activities in Stratford, although I did glimpse some traditional Chinese dancing on top of the library, in the snow.
What I did see on my way past was police, absolutely everywhere. And (even in Stratford!) some Free Tibet banners. That seems to have been the experience of most people watching on the day. Which is what makes the London 2012 blog torch day in pictures so entertaining - where are they? You get the distinct feeling that they were struggling to find pictures, especially as the first two are of ’some snow’, and ‘Wembley Stadium before anyone turned up.’
I recommend Diamond Geezer’s last few posts about the torch relay, including some suggested alternatives to the international relay, given the news that it may be scrapped for 2012 because of protests. Which is not heartening news, as it seems the Olympickers have misunderstood: we’re not just having a go at the torch because we don’t like burny things - it’s the human rights violations that are the problem.
