Rather than continuing this blog with a new installment in my East End adventures, I thought I should take the opportunity to share a glimpse into what I’ve actually been up to all summer: buying stuff on the internet.
Aside a couple of recent purchases (a pair of roller skates and a copy of “A Gift from Winklesea”) I’ve left Ebay behind. I loved the yardsaleyness of it all, but now that it’s dominated by shops and imports from Hong Kong, my new love is US indie shops (also PayPal and the current exchange rate :-))
Though I’m quite confident that the world doesn’t *need* any more twee little felt-backed hand-mirrors or “quirky” soft toys, a lot of the stuff is fantastic, and has allowed me to freely indulge my robot obsession. So a big hand to all these wonderful people who make beautiful things for me to buy rather than make myself!
Here are some of my favourites:
Etsy This is the ultimate - basically Ebay for indie craftspersons.
MushyCat Supergreat grrl store run by a man and his cats.
